Tata Nano is known for making budget electric cars in India. The Tiago EV is one of them. Another popular one is the Nexon EV. It’s a small SUV, under 4 meters long. These cars are helping more people switch to electric. But still, even the cheapest Tata EV costs a bit much. The price starts around Rs 8 lakh. The top model goes up to about Rs 11.89 lakh (ex-showroom). That’s not exactly cheap for many people.
So, what if Tata made something even more affordable? Maybe smaller than the Tiago EV. Something tiny, simple, and city-friendly. The first idea that pops up? An electric Tata Nano. Remember the Nano? It was India’s cheapest car once. An EV version of it could be the game changer.
But does a Tata Nano EV really make sense?
The Tata Nano was called the Rs 1 lakh car. Lots of buzz around it. But it never really took off. Problems kept piling up. Tata sold it from 2008 till 2018. Then, they stopped. In 2010, Tata showed an electric Nano idea.
After that? Nothing much happened. Then in 2015, Tata worked with Jayem to make an electric Nano. They called it the Neo EV this time. A few hundred were made for use in fleets. But it was never sold to regular customers. So yeah, the idea has come up many times, but it never fully happened.

Conclusion
People are excited about the idea. A small, electric version of the famous Tata Nano sounds cool. But the market for it might not be very big.Tata already sells the Tiago EV. It’s bigger and has more space. Plus, it’s priced well. Many buyers who want an affordable electric car might prefer the Tiago EV.
Yes, some want a cheap EV around Rs 5 lakh. But they also want good features and decent range. A small, low-range EV with fewer features might not be very popular, even if it’s cheaper. So, while the Nano EV is interesting, it might not sell a lot. Tata may focus more on cars like the Tiago EV instead.
